Great designs transcend all languages

How is your Norwegian?  Mine, not so good.  But I do recognize great layouts and design when I see it, no matter what the language is.  Gudrun Loennecken is a scrapper from Oslo, Norway.  She has the coolest layouts on her blog 3ndypapir.  I don't know what that means in Norwegian, but my guess would be "really cool layouts".  Here's some layouts from her blog, and not all of the designs are from Gudren personally.  But they all are beautiful layouts

 

And this one is my personal favorite.  Scrapping INSIDE the photo is so amazing!   

 

As you scroll through the blog you'll find some English & French, but it's really fun trying to figure out what she's saying in Norwegian.  Enjoy!

Gorgeous pages by Prima

Just because a manufacturer has a great product doesn't always mean they'll have a good blog with great examples.  That is definitely not the case with Prima.  They have some of the most beautiful layouts on the internet.  These layouts can be used to inspire you to make some really cool pages.

Take this page for example.  I am old enough to have my real flair buttons from the 80s.  I am now inspired to put them on a page thanks to this layout.

  

In this layout, the paper was sewn, but with rounded edges.  What a neat idea!  To get the perfectly rounded edges you'll have to lightly trace your paper with a pencil first.

 

And finally I thought this was a great idea for all those little pictures that seem to small to scrap.  What a great way to use your tiny prints!

  

I hope you find great ideas and put your own personal twist on them to make them your own.  Happy scrapping!

Handcut paper by Helen Musselwhite

One of the things I love about scrapbooking is cutting out shapes by hand with scissors.  When I saw the work of Helen Musselwhite , I was briefly ashamed at my lack of talent, then inspired to create beautiful things.  Look at what this UK resident does with paper/scissors/glue

At her website you can browse through eight galleries of her work.  She also has a gallery of her work that is mounted and on the wall.  If you want to find out how big her works are, you'll have to convert from metric to US measurments, which you can do here.  And you don't need colored paper.  Look at what she does with plain white paper

Looking at her work is making me take a second look at how I cut paper.  Maybe with many, many years of practice I can be half as good as Helen is.  I better get started cutting!

Split Coast Stampers

Today I bring you a very cool website.  It addresses two things us scrappers are intersted in:

1) What do you do with your paper scraps?

2) What do you do with all of those rubber stamps you bought and don't use anymore?

At Split Coast Stampers, you'll find a huge gallery of cards.  Your bound to find ideas to make some cute cards with your crafting scraps.  There are also company galleries as well.  If you have a stamp that you want to find a card for, it will probably be in one of the company galleries.  Here's a couple of cards I found

Scrap Fest at the Mall of America

Have you ever been to the Mall of America in Minnesota?  It.is.HUGE!  I've been a few times and I don't think I've seen half of it.  If you ever needed an excuse to go, this would be it.

Artistic Affaire L'Automne

Sometimes we need to get away.  We need to be inspired and surrounded by beautiful things.  We need to be challenged to grow as crafters.  And sometimes we just need to have fun!

Up for the challenge

 

The great thing about scrapbooking is that it combines the social interaction of crops with artistic expression and preservation of memories. However, beaneath all those lofty ideals, there lies a vicious little secret....good designs can be hard to find. Sketch resources abound online and they are a sure fire jump start to some fun designs. However, there are times when you just need a tiny little spark to get you going.

 Scrapper's Block Challenge Blog is a great source for inspiration with a little kick. Not only do they give you great ideas, but they challenge you to follow the lead of their design team to create layouts within a time frame. As an added bonus, if you post your version of their challenge you're eligible to win a great prize package.

Most devoted scrappers know that the CHA Trade Show is comming up at the end of the month in Orlando, Florida.  That's where all the manufacturers debut their new lines for scrapbook stores to place their orders.  This show is open to the trade only.
