You all know that I am A VINTAGE GIRL....and when I was challenged to make a piece of art on a 6" x 9" piece of cardboard, my brain was a little lost on what to do but I knew it would be vintage. I stared at the blank piece of cardboard for a number of days, watched a few youtube videos and kept just clicking around until something caught my eye. I ended up on a video on how to make a basket out of magazines. I do visual board workshops so I have a ton of magazines here in the studio....I wasn't going to make a basket but the rolling of the magazine pages intrigued me...
And this is what happened from that little thought...

I started with a blank 6" x 9" piece of kraft cardboard and covered with random magazine images and decoupaged with Americana Decoupage from DecoArt. I then starting rolling magazine covers and adhering with Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry. Use only the covers for this type of project due to the amount of product we use to alter it.
Keep adding rolled magazine covers until you reach your desired look.
Cover with gesso. Leave some of the magazine showing through for later effect.
Using DecoArt Media Misters I spray red, yellow, green and gold on the background. I let some drip down into the rolls for effect.
To get this look below, use the sprays on the project just before the gesso dries.
Now for the magic, one of my most favorite products ever....DecoArt Metallic Lustre Wax Metallic Finish. It leaves a finish that is simply stunning on any project.
I use various colors to get the effect shown in the photo below. Added it only to the front of the tubes.
To add even more layered color effect, I then used Prima watercolors all over with an orange to finalize the look.
The final touch is Tim Holtz rub ons, vintage person, and metallic words.
And the final piece with a cool industrial, metallic vintage look. I cannot wait to use this effect on many projects.
